Instead of handing the kids a snack while you teach the story of Noah, turn those little animal crackers into part of the lesson!
This Noah’s Ark Rescue Snack Challenge is an easy Sunday school activity where kids “rescue” their animal crackers and move them toward a simple graham cracker ark as they answer questions and follow directions from the Bible story.
No complicated craft supplies.
No elaborate prep.
Just animal crackers, a few simple snack ingredients, and one BIG reminder:
Listening to God matters.❤️
A Noah’s Ark Snack That’s Also a Game
One of my favorite things about Bible snacks is when the food actually helps tell the story.
For this activity, the animal crackers don’t start inside the ark.
They’re stranded!
Scatter the animals around each child’s plate. Then place a simple graham cracker “ark” on the opposite side.
As you walk through the story of Noah, the kids complete little rescue missions to move their animals closer and closer to safety.
By the end of the lesson, everybody has made it to the ark.
Well…
Hopefully.
There is always that one animal cracker hiding under somebody’s napkin. 😂
What You’ll Need
Keep this one EASY.
You’ll need:
- Animal crackers
- Graham crackers
- Blueberries
- Small paper plates
- Napkins
- Optional rainbow-colored fruit
- A children’s Bible
Use the graham crackers to create a very simple ark or dock on one side of each plate.
Scatter blueberries across the bottom of the plate to represent water.
Then place several animal crackers around the opposite side.
Start With Noah’s Big Assignment
Before the rescue mission begins, talk about what God asked Noah to do.
God told Noah to build an ark.
And this wasn’t exactly a little Saturday afternoon woodworking project.
It was a HUGE assignment.
Noah had to trust God enough to follow His instructions even before he could see how everything was going to work out.
That’s an incredible lesson for kids:
We don’t have to understand everything before we obey God.
Read or summarize Genesis 6:13-22 with the children.
Then announce:
“It’s time to rescue the animals!”
Rescue Mission #1: Listen Carefully
Tell the kids:
“God gave Noah instructions, and Noah listened. Let’s see how carefully YOU can listen.”
Give a simple direction such as:
Move one animal cracker beside the blueberries.
Once everyone follows the instruction, talk briefly about how Noah listened when God spoke.
Then move to the next mission.
Rescue Mission #2: Find a Friend
Ask the children to find two animal crackers that look alike.
If they can’t find an exact match, that’s okay.
We are not starting an animal-cracker identity crisis in Sunday school. 😂
Let them choose two animals and place them together.
Talk about how the animals entered the ark and how God cared for His creation.

Rescue Mission #3: Cross the Water
Now the animals need to get closer to the ark.
Have each child move one pair of animal crackers across the blueberry “water.”
You can ask a Bible question before each move.
Try questions like:
Who told Noah to build the ark?
God!
Did Noah obey God?
Yes!
What did Noah build?
An ark!
Who went into the ark?
Noah’s family and the animals!
Can we trust God?
YES! ❤️
Every correct answer gets another animal closer to the ark.
Rescue Mission #4: Everybody Into the Ark!
This is the fun part.
Let the kids move all their remaining animal crackers onto or beside their graham cracker ark.
Then celebrate!
The animals made it!
Use this moment to bring the lesson back to Noah.
Noah didn’t obey halfway.
He followed what God told him to do.
That’s a simple truth even little kids can understand:
When God speaks, we can trust Him enough to follow Him.
Add God’s Rainbow Promise
After all the animals have been rescued, add a little rainbow above the ark using colorful fruit.
You could use:
- Strawberries
- Mandarin oranges
- Pineapple
- Green grapes
- Blueberries
Then talk about the rainbow God placed in the sky after the flood.
The rainbow wasn’t just something pretty.
It was a sign of God’s covenant.
God keeps His promises.

Turn It Into a Take-Home Rescue Kit
Short on Sunday school time?
This activity can become an adorable take-home Bible snack too.
Place animal crackers, graham crackers, and other shelf-stable ingredients in a clear treat bag.
Add a little card that says:
NOAH’S ARK RESCUE MISSION
Can you get all the animals safely to the ark?
On the back, parents could have a few simple prompts:
- Build your ark.
- Find your animals.
- Match them together.
- Move them toward the ark.
- Remember: Noah listened to God!
- Enjoy your snack!

Make the Lesson More Challenging for Older Kids
For older elementary kids, turn the rescue into a Bible scavenger hunt.
Instead of immediately giving them the answer, have them find answers in Genesis.
For example:
Find who told Noah to build the ark.
Find what God told Noah to bring into the ark.
Find how long it rained.
Find what Noah sent out of the ark.
Find the sign God placed in the sky.
Each time they find an answer, another animal gets rescued.
Now you’ve turned animal crackers into Bible study equipment.
I feel like Noah would approve. 😂

The BIG Truth Behind the Noah’s Ark Rescue Mission
Yes, the animal crackers make this Noah’s Ark activity fun.
And watching the kids “rescue” their animals makes the Bible lesson memorable.
But the crackers, the ark, and even the rainbow are helping us point little hearts toward something much more important.
Noah trusted God enough to obey Him.
God gave Noah instructions, and Noah followed them. Even when Noah couldn’t see everything that was coming, he could trust the One who could.
And that is such a beautiful truth to teach our kids.
They don’t have to understand everything God is doing to know that God is faithful, His Word is true, and He can be trusted.
So if your Sunday school kids leave talking about the animal cracker they rescued, that’s okay. 😂🦁
But my prayer is that somewhere between the blueberries, the graham cracker ark, and trying not to eat their lesson before you finish teaching it, another truth gets planted in their hearts:
The God Noah trusted is still faithful today. ❤️
And ultimately, every Bible story, every little snack, and every lesson we teach is another opportunity to point those precious little hearts toward JESUS.
That’s the part that matters most.
Small snack. BIG truth. All for His glory. ❤️
